Evaluation

I think that hospitality has been challenging and fun this term, and I've loved it. My class cooked many tasty foods such as; apple crumble, Mars bar slice, Orange poppy seed muffins, Sausage rolls, Macaroni & cheese, Chocolate truffles, and many others! For our theory work, we had to make a recipe for a pizza that had a variety of toppings that had a balance of all of the food groups. This includes; fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy and rice etc. My pizza toppings contained:

-Pizza bread base
-BBQ Sauce
-Cheese
-Ham
-Mushroom
-Pineapple
-Bacon
-Tomato
-Chicken
-Union

I believe that my pizza had a balance of variety food toppings for my pizza. With at least one food from each of the food groups. Unfortunately, I was sick on the practical day when we made our pizzas. What I would of done if I was there was:

1) Pre-heat oven at 200°C

2) Make my pizza bread base first

3) Spread BBQ Sause over it

4) Sprinkle cheese on top of my pizza

5) Add, in this order, Union, Pineapple, Tomato, Bacon, Mushroom then Ham.

6) Cook in oven for approx 12 minutes

Overall, this experience has taught me many things about cooking and how fun it can be.

Activity 3

What is a Balanced Diet?

Compare these two diets with The balanced diet plate. Answer the following questions:
• Are any of the food groups missing?
• Are the correct proportions being eaten?
• How could the diets be more balanced?

Teenager:

- He is missing the food group vegetables.

- No, the proper proportions are not being eaten. He only eats a little bit and the food group with bread, rice, pasta etc. when thats the biggest food group. the only food he eats from that food group is spaghetti bolognese and thats hardly enough. Also, vegetables is the second largest food group and he doesn't eat any vegetables. He also needs to eat less junk food (food that contains a lot of fat). he eats too much foods high in fat, salt and sugar which is bad for your health.

- He could instead of drinking soda, swap to water. Also, instead of eating chips, he could cut up potato. And finally, he could replace unhealthy, chocolaty desserts with fruit.

Adult:

- She is missing the food group meat and dairy.

- No, the proper proportions are not being eaten. Even though fruit is good for her, she isn't having a variety of food groups. She news to eat more foods like; meat, fish poultry, eggs, milk and cheese. She also doesn't eat enough things like bread, rice and pasta.

- She could replace the apple with some meat for dinner like chicken or a sandwich with meat in it. She could also have yogurt for a light snack instead of fruit.

Activity 2

Health Issues

Cutting Down Fat:

1) Trim the fat of meat

2) Eat low fat foods

3) Cut the skin off

Cutting down on Sugar:

1) Instead of having something high in sugar for dessert, have some fruit instead.

2) Try and eat sugar-free foods

3) Drink Fruit juice instead of soda

Cutting down on Salt:

1) Don't add salt to everything you eat

2) Eat food low in salt

3) Replace salt with herbs and spices for flavor

Shifting the Balance

1) Instead of frying bacon, cook them in the oven.

2) Instead of chips, try cutting up potato and cooking them.

3) Add plenty of vegetables.

4) Eat low fat foods.

5) Do not use salt.

6) Swap whit bread with wheat bread.

Changes to Meals

Lunch:

Egg & Mayonnaise sandwich, full-fat yogurt, chocolate, water.

What changes would you make?

- I would have, instead of white bread, have wheat bread.
- Change full-fat yogurt which low/no-fat yogurt.
- Instead of having chocolate, have fruit.

Diner:

Thin crust pepperoni and cheese pizza, chips, baked beans, lemon soft drink.

What changes would you make?

Day 7

Todays my class made sausage rolls. I was interested in todays lesson because I have always wondered how you make a sausage roll and was exited to find out how! During todays lesson, I decided to go with the approach that I took last lesson and that was for everyone one the table to contribute in something so we can finish early! After I helped cook with my partner and the sausage rolls were in the oven, I went straight to the sink and filled it up with water and soup and started cleaning all of the dishes and cooking equipment. My partner was then watching the oven while someone else who was sharing the shame table was drying everything after I washed them. Other people were putting the equipment back away after they were dry. And then sometimes we would swap around if someone was getting tired of doing the same job. Everyone worked together and like last time, we finish really fast and the sausage rolls tasted delicious! I was really happy with todays lesson!

Day 6

Today we made Scones. I really like scones so I was really exited to make them today! I didn't find it that difficult making them, I actually found it very easy. I decided to be the one that does most of the washing which I don't mind doing. I think we get everything done easier with everyone contributing in something. Our bench all helped each other cook, clean and dry. I was really happy with the results! And because everyone was helping each other, our table was one of the first to be finished! I will defiant;y suggest this to the next group I have!

Day 5

Today we made Mac and Cheese. I don't usually like this meal so I was a little worried that I might not enjoy making it. Once I started cooking that didn't worry me anymore because I was having so much fun. This meal was probably the most fun to make so far out of the meals I have already made. After the Mac and Cheese was cooked I was surprised about how good it looked... and it tasted delicious. I can't wait to see what we are cooking next!

Day 4

Today we cooked apple crumble! My partners were Jessica, Julian and Caitlin. Because we had three people in our group, it meant we had to serve an extra helping of the apple crumble. This therefore took more time then the other groups. However, with everyone contributing in my group, we were successful in cooking our dish on time. I am looking foward very much to our next Hospotality lesson and to see what we will be cooking!

Day 3

Todays lesson was the first day in the kitchen! We first all gathered around the main kitchen table to watch the teachers demonstration of how to cook the meal. We cooked a Potato Jacket with Vietnamese coleslaw. I don't really like coleslaw but I still had a try cooking it. Overall, even though I didn't really like the meal we cooked, I still had fun cooking it and can't wait for next lesson!

Day 2

Today during Hospitality class we had our lesson in T4 again. We had to catch up on any onguard quizes and update our blogs. After a few minutes of that, we watched a clip on healthy food choices and answered some questions about it. I can't wait for next lesson in the kitchen! I love cooking food!

Day 1

Today in Hospitality class, Mrs Baker told 8J and I what we needed to know about Hospitality and all of the information we needed to know about the upcoming assignments. I feel like the Pizza Assignment is going to be a lot of fun. I can't wait to start cooking!
